Job description

**Location:** Austin, Texas **Duration:** July 6, 2026 – August 31, 2026 (with potential extension for FY27) **Hours:** Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (up to 528 hours total) **Overview** A Texas state agency seeks a Systems Analyst 1 to support applications and software development initiatives. This role requires 1–3 years of experience and focuses on understanding business objectives, analyzing user requirements, and identifying solutions to automate processing or improve existing computer systems. The analyst will work within established guidelines to perform studies, cost/benefit analyses, and document detailed user needs and program functions. **Key Responsibilities** - Understand business objectives and problems, identify alternative solutions, and perform studies and cost/benefit analysis of alternatives. - Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or improve existing computer systems. - Confer with personnel of organizational units to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements. - Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs. - Review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system. - Solve problems related to scheduling, testing, installing, and implementing programs and troubleshooting computer systems. **Required Qualifications** - 2+ years of skill in analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer systems. - 2+ years of ability to write detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer systems. - 2+ years of ability to review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system. - 2+ years of skill in solving problems; in scheduling, testing, installing and implementing programs and troubleshooting computer systems. - Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. - Must be local to the Austin area and currently reside in Texas. **Work Location & Requirements** - Primary work location is Austin, Texas. - Hybrid position with on-site and telework components (determined by hiring manager). - Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding state holidays. - May be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested. - May be required to work remotely up to 100 percent of the time at agency discretion. - All travel, per diem, parking, and living expenses are at the candidate's expense. - Must pass criminal background check as authorized by Texas law. - Must sign an Acceptable Use Agreement and Contractor Integrity Agreement as conditions of employment. - Position is subject to availability of funding.
