Job description
**Location:** Austin, Texas
**Duration:** July 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026 (up to 696 hours)
**Hours:** Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (excluding State holidays); occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
**Overview**
A Texas state agency is seeking three Database Administrator 2 professionals to support critical database infrastructure and data warehouse operations. This role requires 4–7 years of experience and offers considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. The successful candidate will work within a hybrid environment, maintaining the security and integrity of database systems while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. All work products are considered works made for hire and remain the property of the agency.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Support the installation of database software and migrations to new data management system software levels, and test migrations to ensure data reliability and functionality
- Analyze, design, modify, and maintain database structures
- Design and implement procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures
- Establish and implement database security controls and user access levels
- Evaluate and recommend database software packages for potential acquisition
- Prepare and develop database documentation, procedures, and definitions for data dictionaries
- Perform logical and physical data modeling, design relational database models, and create physical data models from logical data models
- Perform database performance monitoring and implement efficiency improvements
- Assist in modifying existing databases and database management systems
- Assist in developing standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment
- Provide assistance in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems
- Evaluate users' requests for new data elements and systems and incorporate them into the existing shared data environment
- Coordinate the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy, load databases, and reorganize as needed
- Perform data modeling and prototyping
- Determine and implement database search strategies and storage requirements
- Maintain data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and set standards for use of data dictionary
- Create test database environment for applications section, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures
- Ensure that user interfaces for database administration and data input/output are compliant with EIR Accessibility standards
- Provide support to users in obtaining data/information when EIR Accessibility issues arise
**Required Qualifications**
- 5+ years of strong knowledge of database management systems, as well as data warehouse management and decision support tools
- 5+ years of extensive experience in the development, implementation, and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts
- 5+ years of experience in business objects and in building the data dictionary
- 5+ years of ability to use database access tools for application delivery
- 5+ years of strong familiarity with analysis, planning, and management reporting functions
- 5+ years of well-developed oral and written communications skills
- 5+ years of strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
- 5+ years demonstrating an extremely high level of analytical ability where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
- 5+ years of understanding of benchmarking processes and techniques
- 5+ years of very high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
- 5+ years of data warehousing data population and data modeling techniques for target structures such as Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and highly normalized data models
- 5+ years with GUI-based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar tools
- 5+ years of implementation experience with enterprise class databases (e.g., Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, or similar technologies)
- 5+ years of implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy, or similar tools)
- 5+ years of experience with data warehouse implementation process, from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, Structured Query Language (SQL), end-user tools, database and SQL
- 5+ years of excellent analytical, problem-solving, team playing, and oral and written communication skills
- 5+ years of proven ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical groups and manage multiple responsibilities
- Experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming work
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems design; of computer operations, systems, and procedures; of project control and cost estimating techniques; of computer programming languages; of data processing flowcharting techniques; of database structures and theories; and of current database technologies
- Working knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure systems by preventing unauthorized access and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to national security and foreign ownership restrictions
**Preferred Qualifications**
- 5+ years of Oracle Database experience
- 5+ years of SSRS report creation
- 1+ year of M204 database experience
**Work Location & Requirements**
- Hybrid position with on-site and telework options
- Candidates will be subject to a pre-employment security review to determine employment eligibility
- May be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested
- All travel, per diem, parking, and/or living expenses are at the candidate's and/or vendor's expense
- Pre-approved travel expenses are limited to the rates and comply with the rules prescribed by the State of Texas for travel by its classified employees
