Job description

**Location:** Austin, Texas **Duration:** July 6, 2026 – August 31, 2026 (up to 696 hours) **Hours:** Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (excluding State holidays); occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed **Overview** A Texas state agency is seeking a QA Engineer Automated 3 to design and execute automated testing solutions for database applications. This role focuses on creating scripts that run testing functions automatically, determining priority for test scenarios, and developing execution plans. The successful candidate will collaborate with development and database administration teams to ensure data integrity, consistency, and optimal database performance. All work products will be considered works made for hire and remain the property of the agency. **Key Responsibilities** - Design and execute test plans and test cases for database applications - Perform functional, performance, and regression testing on various databases - Identify, document, and report defects and issues found during testing - Work with development and database administration teams to resolve issues - Develop and maintain automated scripts for database testing - Ensure data integrity and consistency across various database systems - Monitor database performance and provide recommendations for optimization - Collaborate with stakeholders to gather testing requirements and objectives - Design documentation for automated processes - Determine priority for test scenarios and create execution plans to implement these scenarios **Required Qualifications** - 8+ years of experience designing automated tests by creating scripts that run database testing functions automatically - 8+ years of experience prioritizing test scenarios and creating execution plans to implement these scenarios - 8+ years of experience creating test plans, test cases, and preparing test environments - 8+ years of experience performing moderately complex functional, application, and regression testing - 8+ years of knowledge of the software development life cycle and software development methodologies - 8+ years of experience interpreting requirement documents and updating test documents accordingly - 8+ years of strong familiarity with analysis, planning, and management reporting functions - 8+ years of experience acquiring knowledge of customer business in assigned area - 8+ years of strong teamwork and interpersonal skills - 8+ years of experience working with customers as needed during test cycles - 8+ years of excellent analytical, problem-solving, team playing, and oral and written communication skills - 8+ years of proven ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical groups and manage multiple responsibilities **Preferred Qualifications** - 2+ years of experience with Texas DIR Project Delivery Framework and document templates - 2+ years of familiarity with company's information architecture and information management methodologies - 2+ years of familiarity with existing and planned software technology and the global, regional, and local software architecture and infrastructure components **Work Location & Requirements** - Hybrid position with on-site and telework options - Primary work location in Austin, Texas - Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays - May be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested - All travel, per diem, parking, and living expenses are at the candidate's or vendor's expense - Pre-approved travel expenses limited to State of Texas rates for classified employees - Must satisfy criminal background checks as authorized by Texas law
